Vanessa Chan started the violin aged four and always loved playing in chamber groups and orchestras. She has performed in many world renowned concert halls in Asia, Europe and the United States. She is also an enthusiastic teacher who likes guiding beginners with the use of the Suzuki Method.

 

Vanessa was a fellow in the Southbank Sinfonia in London and they toured around Europe and the United Kingdom. In the UK, she worked with musicians of Royal Opera House, London Symphony Orchestra, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Endellion String Quartet, Danish String Quartet and many more.  She also appeared as the leader of the Southbank Sinfonia at 2019 BBC Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2020, she worked as a tutti violinist in the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Apart from classical music making, Vanessa is also involved in the contemporary music scene. She toured with the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble in 2016 when the group performed at the Tongyeong International Music Festival in South Korea.

 

Vanessa graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (U.K.) with Guildhall Artist Masters in Performance (MMus & MPerf) in Classical Violin (Advanced Instrumental Studies), and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. Her many teachers and mentors include Andrew Watkinson, Hong-ying Ho and Eugene Lee.
