Margaret CHEUNG

Margaret Cheung is a leading actress in Hong Kong's local musical theatre scene. She first graduated with a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Media Studies) from Queensland University of Technology, then with a Diploma in Performing Arts from the School of Drama at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Theatre credits include leading and supporting roles in A Good Woman of Szechwan, Our Town, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Sound of Music, Title of Show, Edges, The Sound of Music, The Full Monty, Anything Goes, My Fair Lady, Pippin, A Chorus Line, Nunsensations, and Nunsense, for which she received a nomination for best supporting actress at the 20th Hong Kong Drama Awards.

 

A keen musician, Margaret is a passionate vocalist. She is currently mentored by Beilosi Fung in vocal performance. She is a regular guest singer with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, performing in concerts such as “The Passage Beyond in concert”, “The Amazing Filmphony- Music by Leon Ko”, “Movies, Musicals and More”, “The Originals”, and in 2017, she was invited by Hong Kong Sinfonietta to present her first solo concert "My Technicolor Childhood" at the Hong Kong Fringe Club Dairy. She is a regular guest performer for local acappella ensembles Yat Po Singers and Orange, and has branched out into performing backing vocals for pop artists Coco Lee, Miriam Yeung, Leon Lai, Kelly Chen, Janice Vidal, Deanie Ip, Anthony Lun, Andy Lau, Joey Yung and Edmond Leung. Her other music background includes playing drums and percussion in concert bands, stage bands and orchestras while growing up in Australia, and has performed as both singer and drummer with the jazz band of he Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

 

Margaret is a voice technician. She is a student of the Estill Voice Model and holds the Estill Figure Proficiency certificate. Her training interest is to help her students rediscover all the parts of the unique instrument we’ve all got within us, the human voice. Margaret’s training emphasis is in mechanics, voice science, as well as playful and primal sounds, which helps students regain their performer’s impulse, remove mental blocks and be able to utilise fully the entire musical and emotional range of the voice, just as nature intended.
