Camille Chiu

Camille Chiu graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music.

She studied percussion under the tutelage of Dr. Lung Heung-wing and Ms. Sophia Woo.

Camille has been devoted to percussion teaching since her study at university. She was a teacher-assistant of Farm Road Government School Percussion Band and a choral instructor of Hong Kong Treble Choir.

She currently teaches the percussion bands of The ELCHK Faith Lutheran School and Ma Tau Chung Government Primary School as a conductor and an assistant conductor respectively. She is also an instructor of the percussion classes of both schools.

 

She played for different music groups in CUHK, including Chung Chi Orchestra, Chung Chi Wind Orchestra,

New Music Ensemble (Percussion Section), and Music Department Student Chinese Orchestra. Camille participated in the percussion masterclass by Paiste Artist Jeff Stern in 2018, and the percussion ensemble masterclass by Li Biao Percussion Group organised by the Hong Kong Arts Festival in 2019 as a member of CUHK New Music Ensemble (Percussion Section). She has also performed with the Ponte Orchestra & Singers, the O Wind Ensemble and Hong Kong Brass Band.

Specialising in composition at CUHK, Camille’s mentors included Prof. Chan Kai-young, Dr. Lo Hau Man and Prof. Wendy Lee. In recent years, she has actively engaged in various composition events and competitions.

With her original composition Deadline Fighters (keyboard and mouse quintet), she won the Second Prize in the Composition Competition (Open Class) of the IPIFA Percussion Festival 2021.

 

Recently, she was commissioned by CUHK Art Museum to compose theme music for its exhibition, "Enchanting Expeditions: Chinese Trade Porcelains across the Globe".
